Why Small Business Advertising Needs Marketing.

Quite often when consulting with business owners I often hear the phrase "I need to do more marketing" business" or "what's the best way to market my business, is social media good?" Generally the conversation leads to talk about, websites, Ad-words, yellow pages, TV ads, and other promotional activity designed to tell everybody how good they are.

In the non-marketing departments of larger companies, marketing are ascribed to the people responsible for making the things we do to 'look good' delivering promotional activity to engage customers into buying our product, so still a perception exists of marketing being nothing more than a series of messages telling people how great their company, product or service is in order to get them to buy.

As such, marketing as its often misunderstood as the activity conducted at the end of a business development process. i.e 'here's my great idea and $100,000 investment, we have advanced knowledge of "floogle" binding widgets production, and we're the hardest working team we know'. Now If we could just spend a truckload of cash 'marketing' our product, to put it in front of as many people as possible we are guaranteed success.'

To the savvy entrepreneur, marketing manager or business owner, they know that marketing is where it starts rather than where it ends. To them, despite having a detailed knowledge in the production and service of "floogle" binding widgets, if you don't know your market first, then you don't know your business and here's why.

Knowing your market and ways to meet it gives you a distinct opportunity to better develop and design your business processes to meet your audience and design better products, services or events. Marketing is about the process if identifying what is it that an audience needs FIRST, the way they want it delivered, and the meaning the audience attaches to it, essentially how you are solving a problem that disrupts their daily lives. Only once you have an idea of this can then begin to craft your business model and processes to delivering what it is that people really need at a price they are willing to pay for it.

If you identify this early you will gain a distinct advantage over your market competitors. You will use fewer resources to:

*acquire customers

*identify areas of risk

* develop risk mitigation strategies

Your approach to success will be more dynamic and efficient
